I was in a band and we played heavy and (hopefully) creative music from 2006-2008. Due to the sort of people Spencer, Scott and I are, we don’t really have a full catalog of everything we recorded and even if we did, I’m not sure we’d want people to hear all of it. Near the end of our demise, Scott made a CD of some of our recordings and I guess we sold them? Recently, a friend found a copy of that CD and I thought it’d be nice to give it anyone who wanted it. I also want to take a moment to explain House. We were not popular when we were a band. That’s the simple truth of it. We were too different (or maybe just bad?) for the kids in Nashville. Not enough breakdowns, too many time changes, way too much singing, not enough gym shorts? I don’t know. For whatever reason, we didn’t resonate like Get Your Guns or Alert the Sky(pre-Devin Prince of Nashville Leach). That’s not to say we didn’t have any fans. Mt. Juliet was our home. Those kids were always great to us. The Basement in Fayetteville just loved the hell out of music. And that’s also not to say we didn’t play good shows. We played incredible shows all the time. It was like the people in the Nashville bands liked us enough to let us play, but no one quite knew what to do with us. I say all this because since our disbanding, numerous people have told us how much they liked our band. Which is weird and awesome and really makes me feel good, so if you’ve ever done that, thank you. It’s easy to feel discouraged in music, but we always prided ourselves on playing with passion and writing honest and challenging music. When that passion was gone, so were we.
So enough of that vain talk. The CD. The first three tracks were the first three songs we ever wrote. They were recorded with Travis Tipton(of FiveFootAnnie) in June of 2006-before we had ever played a show. Garrett Venable was in the band at the time. These are the only three songs with him as a part of the band. Not thrilled with these songs, but the recordings really weren’t too bad and it was not a terrible first attempt. Don’t worry, my vocals get a lot better. The fourth song was recorded with Jim Stuck(punk rock dude who was a Young Life leader) at MTSU Studio C in the spring of 2007 (I think) from 4 A.M to 8 A.M. It was part of project and those studios are pretty shitty and we had limited time and we were sloppy and tired and this whole song couldv’e been way better, but THAT’S LIFE. The fifth song was recorded with Bennett(of Sophia) at Belmont for a project in the fall of 2007(I think?). Belmont’s studios are way better than MTSU’s and Bennett did a great job. I think we did this whole song in one night. Scott recorded the drums way too fast, but now I sorta think this songs sounds awesome because of it too. Again, sloppy, but my vocals have gotten better. The sixth song is our opus. Recorded with Dan Martine(of Sophia) at his house over the span of a couple days. I have no idea when. The seventh song is some crazy ass thing Scott did by himself on Fruity Loops. It’s the most evil song on the CD.
